Elizabeth “Libby” T. King, 103, died April 20, 2009, at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital. She was born Nov. 27, 1905, in Bar Harbor, the daughter of Eugene S. and Alice M. (Orr) Thurston.
Libby was a second-generation innkeeper and owner of the Dirigo Hotel in Southwest Harbor. She was a member of the Manset Union church for over 50 years and she belonged to the Order of Eastern Star. Libby was a member of the Gleaners, the literary club, the Red Cross, the Busy Bee’s, the Friday Club and the Mount Desert Island Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed camping, picking blueberries and taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Libby is survived by two grandchildren, Leslie Lee and her husband, Charles Watson of Southwest Harbor and Storey King and wife, Kandy of Bass Harbor; great-grandchildren, Natasha Watson Johnson and Alyssa Watson, both of Southwest Harbor and Madison and Ethan King, both of Bass Harbor; a daughter-in-law, Betty King of Southwest Harbor. She was predeceased by her husband, Stanwood H. King, in 1996; her son, Stanwood Leslie, in 2004; and by her daughter, Marilyn Elizabeth, in 1928.
A funeral service will be announced at a later date by Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main St., Mount Desert.
