Edward Walter Jylkka died March 12, 2009, at Eastern Maine Medical Center, Bangor. Ed was born in 1918 in Rockport, the son of Vilhe (William) and Sophie Jylkka.
He attended Rockport schools, graduating from Rockport High School in 1937. Ed served in the European Theater in World War II, earning several medals including the Bronze Star. After the war Ed went to college under the G. I. Bill, and continued his education, earning a master’s degree, eventually becoming a supervisor in the U. S. Parks Department.
He married Kathryn Elizabeth Stetler from Lemoyne, Pa. Ed and Betty retired from their jobs in Washington to live at Oak Point in Trenton, where they spent many happy years on Blue Hill Bay. Ed’s last years were spent at Parker Ridge in Blue Hill.
Ed was predeceased by his parents; his brother, William; and by his wife, Betty. He leaves his cousins, Everett and Edwin Jylkka of Rockport, Mass., Irene Geyer of Rowley, Mass., Evelyn Corporon of Portsmouth, N.H., and Elaine Wyatt of Londonderry, N.H.; also his sister-in-law, H. Louise Clements of Camp Hill, Pa.; a nephew, James Clements of McLoud, Okla.; nieces, Donna Nissel of New Cumberland, Pa., and Diane Way of Lewisberry, Pa.; good friend, Melody Wright, as well as his many friends and neighbors from Maine and beyond.
