LAMOINE and NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Edna Hall (Aldrich) Briggs, 95, passed away peacefully Nov. 1, 2011, surrounded by loving family at home. She was born April 6, 1916, in Providence, R.I., to Lucius D. and Sarah H. Aldrich.
Edna was educated in local schools, studying commercial subjects in high school. She was married to Alfred Briggs, July 4, 1936. Edna always loved the outdoors, whether it was hosting family picnics in the back yard, sailing on Narragansett Bay or camping at Cape Cod each summer. She worked for many years at The Outlet Co., Providence, R.I., selling china and glassware. Most of her life she was a member of Allendale Baptist Church, North Providence, R.I., but she joined Lamoine Baptist Church after moving to Maine at age 85. Edna was very much a people person, and kept in close touch with many lifelong friends and family. She was a good judge of character and had a great sense of humor, which included the ability to laugh at herself. She had a generous heart and always put others’ needs first, living life to the fullest, making friends with church members, doctors and her wonderful hospice nurse, Sherry Rogers.
Edna is survived by daughter, Jean and husband, Donald Harris; grandchildren, Melinda Jordan, Lisa and Kevin Fogarty, Jane Harris, Amy and Jon White, Jonathan and Sarah Harris, and Derek Weekley and Michelle Keenan; and great-grandchildren, Michelle and husband, Pawel, Matthew, Zachary, Claire, Brynne and Anne. Edna was predeceased by her husband, Alfred; and two sons, William and Norman Briggs.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, at Lamoine Baptist Church with Pastor James Robertson officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lamoine Baptist Church, 24 Lamoine Beach Road, Lamoine, ME 04605 or Hospice Volunteers of Hancock County, 14 McKenzie Ave., Ellsworth, ME 04605.
