Edna C. (Lunt) Pio, 92, of Ellsworth passed away peacefully with her daughters, Jackie and Elaine, by her side on Feb. 15, 2021, at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center. Edna was born on Frenchboro, Long Island, Oct. 23, 1928. She was the daughter of Clifton and Ella Lunt and attended the one-room schoolhouse for grades one through eight. She went on to attend high school at Portland High and then graduated from Bar Harbor High School.
Edna was married to the late Arthur Pio in 1949 and they had five children, Dolores, Elaine, Douglas, Jacqueline and Aaron. She also had six grandchildren, Jason, Samuel, Joshua, Dustin, Doug Jr. and Brian, and was very proud of them all. A very special place in her heart was her four great-grandchildren, Daemon, Madeline, Khloe and Elijah.
Edna worked for many years at the Woolen Mill in Ellsworth, and then went on to The Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor, where she retired from in 1994. No summer was complete unless she attended the Frenchboro Lobster Festival and The Jackson Lab’s luncheon for retirees. She was able to attend both right up to recent years.
Edna was an avid New England sports fan and enjoyed watching the Red Sox and Patriots. She attended a few games at Fenway Park, which brought her much joy. She also has a collection of memorabilia of both teams that she was proud of. Edna also enjoyed knitting, reading and spending time with family and friends. A very special friend to her was Alison Salsbury, whom she attended school with and kept in touch over the years.
Edna is survived by her three daughters, Dolores Heckman of Titusville, Fla., Elaine Pio of Ellsworth and Jacqueline Pio of Palmyra; and son, Douglas Pio, of Palmyra. She is also survived by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Clifton and Ella Lunt; a brother, Malcom Lunt; and her son, Aaron Pio.
A graveside service will be held at a later date at Woodbine Cemetery in Ellsworth. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.jordanfernald.com. Arrangements by Jordan-Fernald Funeral Homes, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth.
