Diana L. Foss, 79, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 4, 2020, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice in Scarborough with her loving family by her side.
She was born March 25, 1940, in Holyoke, Mass., to Paul R. and Doris V. (McCauley) Keeping. Diana married her high school sweetheart, Lester Jr., on Sept. 5, 1958, at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita County, Texas. They were married over 60 years before Lester passed away in July of 2019.
Diana and Lester enlisted in the U.S. Air Force together. They were stationed in Alaska for a few years before starting a family of their own. After serving three years in the military, Diana stayed home and focused on raising their three children. When all of her kids reached high school, she began working for the Maine Turnpike Authority, where she remained for 25 years before retiring.
Some of Diana’s favorite pastimes included scrapbooking, playing bingo, card games, doing crafts of all kinds and cake decorating. On any given summer day, she and Lester could be found “yardsaling” and flea marketing, searching for antiques and treasures. Making memories with her grandchildren was one of the most important things in Diana’s life. They would often spend time vacationing as a family, road tripping and camping throughout the United States and Canada. After retirement, Diana and Lester wintered in Tampa, Fla., where they made many memories and lifelong friends.
Diana was predeceased by her husband, Lester G. Foss Jr.; her son Lester G. Foss III; her parents, Paul R. and Doris V. Keeping; her sister Doris A. Duncan; and her brother Paul R. Keeping.
She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Tilton, and husband, Glenn Tilton, of Boothbay Harbor; her son, Leonard Foss, and his wife, Dawny Foss, of Wells; her brother, Kenneth Keeping, and his wife, Lola Keeping, of Wells; five grandchildren, Elizabeth and Jamie Tilton of Boothbay Harbor, Jason Tilton of San Diego, Calif., Sydney (Foss) Capleton and Mackenzie Foss of Wells, and great-grandson Noaa Tilton of Boothbay Harbor.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2020, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home, 26 Market St., North Berwick, immediately followed by a funeral service. Interment to follow at Oceanview Cemetery, Route 1, Wells.
