David Jasper Maddocks

ELLSWORTH — David Jasper Maddocks, 53, passed away Dec. 25, 2011, at his home surrounded by his wife, son, daughter, and her family. He was born May 9, 1958, in Ellsworth, the son of Irvin R. and Joyce A. (Barker) Maddocks.

While David fought cancer for many years his spirits were always positive. David enjoyed his family and spent his time with his son, Raymond. David enjoyed hiking, fishing, motorcycle riding, splitting firewood and watching Raymond in his many sporting interests. David graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1976, and after graduating David enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving his country for five years. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy he and a buddy drove their motorcycles from California to Maine — enjoying the scenery and everything our country has to offer. David received a certificate in building construction from Eastern Maine Community College. David worked for many years as a carpenter, and after his son was born he worked as an independent logger to spend more time at home caring for his son.

David is survived by his wife of 15 years Gail (Poulin) Maddocks; his son, Raymond; daughters, Joanne Awalt, Cindy Bromley Gallagher and her husband, Sean, of Oakhill, Va., and Michelle Bromley Bailey and her husband, Steve, of Trenton; five grandchildren, Joshua and Emily Carlson, Aiden and Deaglan Gallagher, and Corbin Bailey. He is also survived by his sisters, Ann Kane of Ellsworth, Karen Connery and her husband, Larry, of Rochester, N.H., and Rebecca Maddocks Wilbur and her husband, Rollie, of Ellsworth; and a brother, Irving Maddocks III of Ellsworth; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a special nephew, Sean Kane, wife, Missy, and daughter Briana, with whom David shared many happy memories. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Chris Watson Maddocks.
