Dan Eugene Brandt Nov. 28, 1949 – Nov. 13, 2014

flagOBIT - Dan BrandtDan went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2014, at a Bangor hospital. He was 64 years young. Dan was the son of Delbert Brandt and Maxine (Markley) Lepp. Dan was born in Shelby, Ohio.

He graduated from Hilldale High School in Ohio. After high school, Dan joined the Air Force during the Vietnam War, being stationed in Thailand. While in the service, Dan was a carpenter, and earned the rank of sergeant. Over the years Dan held many different jobs, such as working at Stinson’s, a sardine canning factory in Prospect Harbor, as well as even trying his hand at being a sternman on a lobster boat. He loved the outdoors. Dan would go into the woods behind his house in Sullivan for hours in search of any animal that might be there. He would not hunt the animals; instead he took his camera to catch them on film.

Dan was a gentle man, who loved his wife, Paula, and stepdaughter, Charlotte, very much. Neither Paula nor Charlotte left his side while he was ill. Dan married Paula in 1996, after being together since 1990. Dan was a longtime member of the Ashville Community Church in Sullivan, and served on the board for many years. He was also a member of the American Legion and VFW Post 109 in Ellsworth.

Dan is survived by his wife, Paula, of Sullivan; a very special stepdaughter, Charlotte McLain and her partner, Sarah Jordan, of Sullivan; two sisters, Sarah Pierson and her husband, William, of Nevada, Ohio, and Jayne Isaacs and her husband, Terry, of Woodstock, Ohio; a son, Dan Brandt Jr., of Ashland, Ohio; and a daughter, Alice Nauman, of Olive Hill, Ky.; and an aunt, Ruth White, of Ashland, Ohio. Dan also had many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dan was preceded by his father, Delbert Brandt; his mother, Maxine (Markley) Lepp; and a stepfather, Earl Lepp.

There was a memorial service held to celebrate Dan’s life Friday, Nov. 21, 2014, at the Ashville Community Church in Sullivan. A burial will be held next spring at the Simpson’s Cemetery in Sullivan. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Dan’s memory to the Forgotten Felines of Maine, P.O. Box 264, Gouldsboro, ME 04607.
