SURRY — Corinne Ann (Sawyer) Cowan, 66, passed away peacefully, at home on Dec. 28, 2015, following a lengthy illness. She was born in Ellsworth on July 1, 1949, the daughter of Elwood V. Sawyer and Ann G. (Warren) Sawyer.
Corinne lived most of her life in Surry village, where she enjoyed beautiful views of Patten Bay from her home. She graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1968, and shortly thereafter went to work as a switchboard operator for the telephone company in Ellsworth, and later in Bangor. Afterward, she was employed at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital, where she worked for 23 years at the front desk as a telephone operator and receptionist. Her indomitable spirit, optimistic outlook and quick (and humorous) comebacks won her many friends and admirers. She loved to travel and, during her married life, enjoyed trips to Florida, Hawaii and Canada’s Maritime Provinces, or just driving down Newbury Neck and around Surry.
She is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, Emery G. Cowan; her mother, Ann Sawyer of Ellsworth; her sister, Louise Talkington of Ocala, Fla.; and her brother, T.J. Sawyer of Ellsworth.
She was predeceased by her father, Elwood, and her sister, Dorothy McFarland.
The family would like to thank Elizabeth and all of the in-home caregivers who provided Corinne with such caring and expert attention.
Condolences may be expressed online at www.ellsworthamerican.com.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
