Charlotte Madeira

Lover of Life and Pie

Our hero, our leader, our inspiration, our Rock of Gibraltar, our mother — CGM died at sunrise Nov 18, 2013, surrounded in love and faith.

Charlotte Gillies Madeira was born in Chestnut Hill, Pa., on Oct 2, 1925. She attended Chestnut Hill Hospital School of Nursing and became a registered nurse.

She married John Welsh Madeira in 1950.  The couple spent their honeymoon on Mount Desert and every summer thereafter.

The matriarch of a large family of 21 that includes her late husband,  seven children, two sons-in-law, two daughters-in-law, nine grandchildren and many overindulged dogs and cats.

A lover of life, wildflowers and pie in all of its infinite variety, she found beauty in simplicity, and called it as she saw it.

Her independence, her defiance, her common sense,  remarkable strength, valiant spirit,  endless sense of fun and her selfless and positive nature will be her legacy…and will “keep our compass true.”

She will be honored  at St. Peter’s Church in Manset during their 4 p.m. service on Nov. 23.  In lieu of flowers, all contributions can be made in her memory to Acadia Family Center, 1 Fernald Point Road, Southwest Harbor, ME 04679. After the service, please join the family at 18 Seawall Point Lane from 5-8 p.m.

Amen

The End.

Know when to pay your respects.
