BANGOR — Charles “Chuck” W. Johnston passed away Jan. 31, 2013, from a heart attack at his home in Bangor. He was born May 7, 1947, in Southwest Harbor, to William and Anna Flagg Johnston and spent a majority of his life there.
He worked in all aspects of the tourist industry on Mount Desert Island and in Florida in the winter. Chuck was fascinated with fast cars, motorcycles and boats and had many during his life. Some bordered on the absurd performance-wise and he enjoyed pushing them to the limit but he never endured an accident. The obsession with speed often made it uncomfortable to ride with him, but this could be partially overcome by the silly grin on his face. Chuck was always willing to help others deal with their problems often forgetting his own needs in the process. He was a big man with a big heart that just could not take the strain that he put on it but that did not stop him wanting to get out and around.
He is survived by his brother, John of Bangor; and two nephews, John and James Johnston of Bangor.
Funeral arrangements will be announced in the spring. Burial will be in the family plot at Mt. Height Cemetery, Southwest Harbor.
