BAR HARBOR — Carolyn J. Barker, 83, died July 16, 2011, surrounded by her family at a Bangor hospital. She was born Oct. 6, 1927, in East Corinth, the daughter of John and Bernice (Cole) Barker.
Carolyn was a graduate of East Corinth Academy and Lawrence Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Medford, Mass. She worked as a nurse at Mount Desert Island Hospital in Bar Harbor for more than 40 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Bar Harbor and served on church committees.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Muriel Barker of Bradley; nephew Stephen Barker and his wife, Rosalie, of Kenduskeag; niece Judy Pelletier and her husband Scott of Sidney; three great-nieces, Serina and Alysia Barker, and Brittany Merrill and her husband, Dan; and her great-nephew, Robert Pelletier.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, John Barker; and two sisters, Lucy Barker and Katherine Grant.
The family thanks staff at Sylvia Ross Home for the loving care they provided to Carolyn these last few years.
A service of remembrance will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at First Baptist Church of Bar Harbor with the Rev. Scott Records officiating. Interment will be later at Corinthian Cemetery, Corinth.
