Carl “Nick” R. Johnson

SOUTHWEST HARBOR—Carl “Nick” R. Johnson, 85, died Aug. 26, 2010, in Bar Harbor. He was born Oct. 29, 1924, in Jonesport, the son of Lafayette and Marcia C. (Faulkingham) Johnson.


Nick served in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific and Italy. He worked as a lobster fisherman for over 60 years. He enjoyed square dancing for many years and he loved gardening and spending time at Beal’s Fish Wharf with his fishing buddies.

Nick is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Dorothy (Dobbins) Johnson; one son, Ronald Johnson and wife, Garnet, of Bass Harbor; and one daughter, Cynthia McFarland and husband, Edward, of Southwest Harbor; three grandchildren, Emily and Katherine Johnson and Melissa Sprague; one great-granddaughter, Meadow Gilley; and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was held Aug. 30, 2010, at Mt. Height Cemetery, Southwest Harbor. Contributions in Nick’s memory may be made to the Southwest Harbor/Tremont Ambulance Fund, P.O.
