Bruce Wayne Merchant, 53, went home to be with the Lord, and his dad, due to a car accident on June 19, 2020. He was born on June 29, 1966, son of the late Sherman Lee Merchant II and Ella Merchant.
He leaves behind his wife, Melissa; son, Ty; two daughters, Felecia (Rob) and Nichole (Travis); five grandchildren; sisters, Hattie (Ed) and Jennie (Maurice); brothers, Sherman Frank (April), and Eugene (Laurie); like a brother, Mike Cronin (Jeneeka); brother-in-law, Raymond (Katie), of Texas; uncles, Allan (Phyllis), Bertrum (Carolyn), Herman and Irving Cowperthwaite; aunts, Mary Anne (Howdy) and Ann Merchant; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was a graduate of Sumner and just saw his son, Ty, graduate on June 13. He was so proud.
Bruce started clamming at the age of 5. We all went clamming as a family. He then started lobster fishing with his dad, then got into the elver fishing and excelled in it. One warden said he was one of the best. He was the president of the Elver Association at one time.
He joined the Knights of Pythias at an early age, and was a faithful boy who didn’t miss Sunday school so he would get a medal.
Bruce was a very caring, gentle, loving, kind-hearted person who would stop to help anyone who needed it. He’s missed by his dog, Bella, who is still waiting for him to come home, like we all are.
Due to COVID-19, we will not have a gathering at the hall. We will have a graveside service at the Prospect Harbor Cemetery on July 12 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Charles Kelley. Everyone is welcome for a signing of the guest book and a showing of pictures. Face masks will be available.
Donations may be made in Bruce’s memory to the Prospect Harbor Methodist Church, P.O. Box 68, Prospect Harbor, ME 04669 or to the Knights of Pythias, P.O. Box 31, Gouldsboro, ME 04607.
He will be missed by all who knew him.
