Brian E. Woodworth



OBIT-WoodworthHANCOCK and SARASOTA, FLA. — Brian E. Woodworth was born Jan. 1, 1956, in Bangor and grew up in Hancock, son of Calvin and Ida Woodworth. While attending Sumner Memorial High School, he was a promising multi-sport athlete who was a promising pitcher and earned a scholarship to the University of Maine Presque Isle where he was later inducted into their hall-of-fame.

He was drafted out of high school by the Boston Red Sox, as a lifelong fan, but would play in the Kansas City Royal’s minor league organization. After traveling in North and Central America playing baseball, he would settle in Sarasota, Fla. While living here he enjoyed golfing, camping and going to sporting events.

He passed away on May 19, 2015, and is survived by his mother, Ida Woodworth of Hancock; his sister, Jill Gaspar and husband Rick of Orland; brother Dean Woodworth of Hancock; son Brett Woodworth and wife Ashley and grandson Brenner who reside in Sarasota, Fla., and many nephews, cousins and aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by his father Calvin Woodworth.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday Aug. 22, 2015, at the Masonic Lodge in Sullivan from 1-4 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, Brian wished for donations for Brenner’s college fund be made, which was a dream of his.
