Brenda M. Ferdinand



BAR HARBOR — Brenda Marie Ferdinand, 47, beloved wife of Tony Ferdinand, died peacefully in hospice in Massachusetts, on Thursday, July 7, 2011 surrounded by family and friends, after a courageous six-month battle with cancer. Brenda was born Feb. 10, 1964, the daughter of Paul F. and Carol A. (Doucette) Hanke in Springfield, Mass. She was raised in Tewksbury, Mass., and had lived in Brookline, N.H. for seven years.

Brenda graduated from Fitchburg State College with a Bachelor of Science in nursing, and worked in the maternity area of several area hospitals. She was a faithful communicant of St. John Neumann Church in Merrimack, N.H., where she was very active, especially with the youth ministry, and as a member of the Fast for Social Action.

Her family always came first; she loved traveling with her family, and often made time to decorate beautiful and elaborate cakes for special events, a hobby she enjoyed very much. She was an avid New England sports team supporter, especially the Patriots and Red Sox.

Brenda is survived by Tony, her loving husband of 24 years; two sons, Stephen and Kevin; two daughters, Carolyn and Katie, all of Brookline, N.H.; her mother, Carol A. Hanke of Tewksbury, Mass.; a brother, Paul V. Hanke of Burlington, Mass; three sisters, Lisa Rancourt of S. Grafton, Mass., Sharon Sonnenfroh of N. Andover, Mass. and Donna Hanke of Bar Harbor; and by many loving in-laws, nieces and nephews.

A mass of Christian burial was celebrated on July 12, 2011 at St. John Neumann church. Burial was at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Tewksbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Brenda’s name to either the Community Hospice House, 210 Naticook Rd., Merrimack, NH 03054, or to St. John Neumann Parish, 708 Milford Rd., Merrimack, NH 03054.
