Brandon Lee Higgins

OBIT - Brandon HigginsBROOKLIN — Brandon Lee Higgins, 19, went home to his Heavenly home on Nov. 30, 2014, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Oct. 5, 1995, in Nashua, N.H., the son of Kevin and Louanne Means Higgins.

Brandon was an avid basketball player starting in middle school with his coach, Chris Wright. “I coached a kid that I thought was uncoachable, and he proved me wrong, and I forced a kid out of his comfort zone and he flourished”. Due to cancer, he was unable to participate in high school basketball but continued to support the team. He was an avid Boston Celtics fan and received lots of support through their organization. He was able to touch many lives through volunteering at the Brooklin School and through attendance of the Baptist Youth Camp, Camp Rainbow, and Champ Camp. He started a Brandon’s Recovery Facebook page, and followers of that page supported him throughout his journey; he had 11,000 followers. Despite his diagnosis of cancer he achieved many goals and he was very proud of obtaining his driver’s license and graduating from high school with honors. He was always known for putting others first, no matter his condition. His sense of humor would always put others at ease. He loved comedians and going to comedy shows and enjoyed seeing the latest movies and playing the newest video games.

Brandon is survived by his mother, Louanne and partner, Fred Woods, of Brooklin; father, Kevin and wife, Shelly, of Brewer;  sister, Ashley Higgins and partner, Dan Hirst, of Bangor; stepsisters, Lyndsey, Bethany, and Rebecca Wood of Brewer; stepniece, Isabelle; maternal grandmother, Lois Means; uncle, Rolly Means and wife, Audrey and their daughter, Sarah; paternal grandparents, Ivan and Charlotte Higgins; aunt, Kim Higgins; very special people, Brenda and Merrill Means, Madeline and Russell Smith, O.J.
