STEUBEN — Barbara Arter, of Steuben, passed away on Jan. 2 after a battle with an extremely rare cancer. With the pain and suffering finally over, Barbara is now ready for her tee time with the lord.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 35 years, David Klausmeyer. She is also survived by her daughter, Sandra Klausmeyer, her husband, Ben Beverly, and their son, Bennett Beverly; and her son, Erik Klausmeyer and his daughter, Ophelia Klausmeyer. She is also survived by seven brothers and sisters, their spouses and 15 nieces and nephews.
After 20 years of college teaching, Barbara owned and operated her own environmental consulting company. Barbara dedicated her entire professional career to watershed science and conservation, and was well respected by her fisheries and conservation colleagues for her integrity, quality of work, and professionalism. Barbara also worked to better the local community by serving as a board member for the Washington/Hancock Community Agency and supported several other nonprofit service organizations.
Barbara’s favorite pastimes were the good times and laughter she had with her family, her special friends in Brigantine, N.J. and on Mount Desert Island, at the Bar Harbor Golf Course in Trenton, and at all the local dances in Milbridge and Ellsworth. She also enjoyed fly fishing, kayaking, biking and cross country skiing.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Narraguagus Bay Health Care Facility, 3 Main St., Milbridge, ME 04658. The family will announce arrangements for a memorial service at a later date.
