Barbara Ann (Wessel) Richardson was born in Ellsworth on July 2, 1938. She was the daughter of Paul B. Wessel of Sedgwick and Mildred Addie Burgess of North Newport. She passed on May 8 after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Barbara, “Barb,” graduated from Ellsworth High School, Class of 1956. She attended Mount Ida Junior College, where she studied retail merchandising and fashion. She worked for a short time at Ellsworth City Hall as a secretary and worked at Alice Tilden’s Hat Shop. In 1962, she welcomed Gerald, “Jerry,” into the world. She later went to work for M.A. Clark, Willey’s Style Center and, up until her illness, Ruth Foster’s. Barb was well known for her fashion sense and decorating style, antiquing with the girls and her love of camp on Patten Pond.
She is survived by her son Gerald Wessel Richardson, daughter-in-law Theresa, her pride and joy, granddaughter, Hannah Wessel Richardson, and brother Robert J. Wessel. She is also survived by special friends Raymond and Rhyne Robidoux and family, Cindy Sargent, Carolyn Wilbur, Merredith Friend, Terri McDonald and daughters Jamie and Casey, Bill and Ellen Sheezer, special neighbors Pat Maguire and family, Ed Dewitt, Ruth Foster and numerous friends and co-workers.
There will be a celebration of life at a later date.
