ELLSWORTH—Alice G. Sargent, 78, died Thursday, April 1, 2010. She was born Feb. 18, 1932, in Ellsworth, the daughter of Ambrose “Winnie” Winfield and Doris (Colpitts) Garland.
Alice graduated from Ellsworth High School and attended a school for missionaries in Cleveland, Ohio. She worked many years at the woolen mill in Ellsworth until it closed. She later was a school custodian and did various other jobs until she was no longer able to work. Alice’s father, Winnie, was the light of her life and she took care of him in his old age. Alice loved her quiet home on the very shore of Graham Lake. She enjoyed camping, gardening, fishing and being outside. Alice always had dogs and cats in her life, and loved them deeply. She cared about all animals and donated faithfully to the Humane Society.
Alice is survived by many cousins and extended family. She was predeceased by her parents; and brother, George.
A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday April 10, 2010, at the Greenwood Cemetery, Gary Moore Road, Ellsworth. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Alice’s name may be made to the Humane Society. A service of Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Ellsworth.
