Adele Hallowell de Vries, 69, died March 27, 2009, at her home after a long illness. She was born Nov. 21, 1939, in New York City, and grew up in Stonington, Conn., daughter of the late Francis Jackson and Priscilla (Allen) Hallowell.
Adele was devoted to her family and her many friends. Before and during her years of illness, she was active in school, hospital and church activities in Bedford, N.Y., and always ready to help. Adele was interested in art and antiques, needlepoint, gardens, horseback riding in Wyoming, loved to read and laugh. Adele married Peter J. de Vries, Sept. 24, 1966.
In addition to her loving husband, Peter, she is survived by her devoted daughters, Priscilla A.M. “Pam” and her husband, Peter G. Sweeney, and their children, Edith and Rebecca Sweeney, all of Providence, R.I., and Caroline A. de Vries and her fiance, Jeffrey Ball, of Stonington, Conn.
A celebration of Adele’s life was be held March 31, 2009, at St. Francis by the Sea Episcopal Church, 330 Hinckley Ridge Road, Blue Hill, with the Rev. Claudia Smith officiating. A service of Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Homes, Stonington.
