Ruth Marston (Johnson) Mack of Morgantown, Pa., passed away at her home on Monday, Jan. 23, 2023.
Her loving husband, Frederick Emil Mack, who passed in September 2013, awaits her “Just Beyond the Moon.”
Ruth was born in a little farmhouse on the Tunk Road in Sullivan, by midwife, to Eva (Merchant) and Fred Johnson.
She had a bright mind and loved school and softball. She married young but managed to raise five children doing whatever it took to keep them well fed and well dressed: from waitressing, cleaning houses, processing turkey in a plant and working on the road crew for Chester Springs. Her accomplishments were many and varied.
Ruth and Fred built a beautiful stone home on Beaver Hill Road in the heart of Chester County. They built on to an old hunting camp, the family doing all the work themselves, the electric, the plumbing and the masonry. Ruth artfully persuaded the local bankers into a loan by telling them that the that the imperfect walls “were the natural beauty of the stone” when they were actually a learning curve for two young homesteaders! They heated that home mostly with wood culled from their own 5 acres. Ruth canned food, baked bread and provided even when money was tight. Later in life she and Fred became owners of the well-known Daisy Point Drive-In in Pottstown, Pa.
Ruth loved to garden, watercolor paint, knit, sew, and had a decent eye for photography. She loved to take walks, especially by moonlight.
Ruth is survived by Ella Marie (Card) Stada, wife of Gerald, from Lagrange, Ga.; Joanne Carol (Card) Kenney of Newmanstown, Pa.; Frederick Emil Mack Jr. (June) of Anchorage, Alaska; Rock Anthony Mack of Morgantown, Pa.; and Polly Ann Mack of Greenville, N.C.
Ruth has eight grandchildren and five-great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Ruth was predeceased by three brothers, six sisters and a grandson.
A private interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements by The Labs Funeral Home Inc. of Honey Brook, Pa.
