Witham Buys Another Hotel

BAR HARBOR — Hotelier David Witham has added yet another motel to his growing roster of local lodging establishments.

The Rockhurst Motel, on Mount Desert Street, was purchased by Mr. Witham on Sept. 2. The 1.25-acre property contains a one-story motel with 13 rooms and a 1,140-square-foot one-story manager’s house.

The property is valued by the town at $718,100. The purchase price has not been disclosed.

The Rockhurst Motel is adjacent to the historic Ledgelawn Inn, an upscale bed-and-breakfast. The Ledgelawn Inn was purchased earlier this summer by competing hotelier Tom Walsh.

Mr. Witham bought the Rockhurst Motel through a limited liability company. Rockhurst, LLC, was formed on Aug. 27, just six days before the purchase was made final.
