Winter Harbor to Hold Special Town Meeting on Public Safety Building Land Purchase

WINTER HARBOR — Following a testy exchange with a handful of local residents, the Board of Selectmen July 20 voted to hold a special town meeting on a date yet to be determined to reconsider a vote authorizing the $125,000 purchase of land for the new fire and public safety building.

The board received a petition with 44 signatures asking that a special town meeting be called to reconsider the 34-30 vote at Town Meeting June 10 authorizing selectmen to go ahead and buy the 17.5-acre Esther Coombs property on Route 186.

Execution of the purchase and sale agreement was contingent on approval at Town Meeting.
