Wind Power Damage Focus of Programs

ELLSWORTH — “Why Industrial Wind Isn’t Green and Is Destroying Maine’s Mountains” is the subject of a talk and documentary film screening on Oct. 21 and 22.

The featured speaker, Jonathan Carter of Forest Ecology Network, will be at The Maine Grind in Ellsworth on Thursday, Oct. 21, and at the Blue Hill Public Library on Friday, Oct. 22.

Both programs are scheduled for 7 p.m.

The presentation is centered on the Highland Mountains and Bigelow Preserve (close to Flagstaff Lake and the Appalachian Trail), which are threatened by a massive wind project.

Carter will lead a discussion about the impacts of industrial wind on the forest environment, wildlife and human health, as well as on state and local economies dependent on unspoiled natural areas to attract tourism.
