He will face Madeleine Gay Leach of Castine in the June 8 primary. District 37 encompasses Blue Hill, Surry, Castine, Sedgwick, Brooksville and Penobscot.

Walden is a stay-at-home dad, raising four children while his wife, Dr. Stacey Walden, works full time as a family practice physician and board member at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital.

In the past, he has worked as head cook and kitchen manager, and for nine years, he worked as a selector, machine operator, loader and trainer in a grocery chain warehouse.

He attended the University of Southern Maine, majoring in business administration.

“Private sector jobs are the most important part of Maine’s future,” Walden said, “and it seems that we are losing businesses left and right. The ones that remain are not hiring and many are laying workers off.

“We have the resources and the work force to manufacture products that can be sold around the world. What is missing is an environment that allows small businesses to thrive.”
