TRENTON — A Mount Desert man died and an Ellsworth man was seriously injured after their pickup trucks collided nearly head-on in the southbound lane of Route 3 Friday at 6 a.m., the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department reported.
Brad S. Kenney, 31, of Northeast Harbor died at Eastern Maine Medical Center from injuries he suffered in the crash, said Lt. Tim Cote.
The other motorist, William P. Brownlee, 29, suffered serious leg injuries, Cote said. Bar Harbor Ambulance took Brownlee to Maine Cost Memorial Hospital then to EMMC.
Cote said Kenney had been driving north in a 2001 Chevrolet S-10, which crossed into the southbound travel lane, striking Brownlee’s 2000 Chevrolet pickup nearly head-on.
The Trenton Fire Department had to extricate both men from their vehicles, said Cote. Both trucks were total losses.
Deputy Scott Kane is the lead investigator. Chief Deputy Richard Bishop and Cote assisted Kane at the scene.
Lt. Pat Kane and Deputy Jeff McFarland will do an accident reconstruction.
