According to Ellsworth Police, Richard Jazowski, 44, of Bradley was killed when the Chevrolet Malibu he was driving north on Route 1A collided head-on near the bottom of the hill with a southbound pickup truck driven by Marcus Saunders, 38, of Hancock.

Ellsworth Police Chief John DeLeo said Wednesday that Saunders was passing another vehicle when he apparently lost control and struck the sedan.

Saunders was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Police said Thursday morning that he was undergoing surgery at the hospital for a badly broken leg. He also suffered broken ribs in the accident, police said.
