Tremont Kayak Learning

TREMONT — Tremont Consolidated School has received a $2,000 grant to purchase kayaks for the upcoming school year. The kayaks will be used as a part of the middle-school science curriculum, and will allow the students to witness science concepts up close and personal.

They will be monitoring different plant and animal species as well as doing water quality testing. They also will be learning to plot courses using nautical charts and navigational aids.

The school is looking for 10 tandem kayaks and 20 paddles. The grant will only cover about half of the cost, so the school also is looking to raise funds for the rest (or find donations!).

The school also needs to build a rack to store the kayaks and is looking for donations of wood.
