Train to Trails Event June 25

ELLSWORTH — On Saturday, June 25, Ellsworth Area Healthy Communities is sponsoring a Train to Trails event that will offer a free train ride and tour of the Sunrise Trail.

The event will run from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. Space on the train is limited to 150 riders and will be offered first come, first served.

Visitors may choose to meet at the trailhead in Washington Junction at 4 instead of taking the train.

The Downeast Scenic train will depart from the platform adjacent to Cadillac Mountain Sports at 3:30 p.m. and take riders to the Sunrise Trail at Washington Junction. Participants will have time to explore the trail and visit booths offering outdoor recreation information.

Organizations hosting booths include Acadia National Park, Frenchman’s Bay Conservancy, Blue Hill Heritage Trust, Petit Manan Wildlife Refuge and others.

Visitors can pick up trail maps, ask questions and plan summer outings.

The train will return to Cadillac Mountain Sports by 5:30. The event will be held rain or shine.
