Town Seeks Energy Funds

BAR HARBOR — A federal economic stimulus grant to study the potential for the use of wind and solar energy at town-owned buildings is being sought by officials.

The grant application is in the process of being submitted to the Maine Public Utilities Commission, who are administering the federal grant, town planner Anne Krieg said Monday. The town council approved the application on Oct. 20.

The application is for $10,000 for an alternative energy feasibility study. If the grant is awarded, tests for solar and wind power potential at town properties will be undertaken, with the hope of developing the beginnings of an alternative energy strategy.
