Touch-a-truck Event is Planned

TRENTON — Organizers say the Bar Harbor Hancock County Airport will be the place to be on Saturday, May 14 for the third annual Touch a Truck event.

Harbor House Community Service Center in Southwest Harbor and the Westside Food Pantry have teamed up again to present the event, a fun-filled family occasion to benefit both the food pantry and the Harbor House Children’s Center Scholarship Fund.

Admission to Touch-a-Truck, which runs from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., is $5 per person or $20 per family. Organizers said there will be an excavator, earthmovers, backhoes, limousine, ambulance, rescue vehicles, fire trucks, police cruiser, 18-wheeler truck, drill boom, forklift and many other huge vehicles for children to examine and explore. There will also be raffles for a bi-plane ride, two round-trip tickets from Bar Harbor to Boston on Colgan Air, a chance to drive an excavator in a gravel pit and two season passes to the Wild Acadia Fun Park. Food will be provided by Mainely Meats and MDI Ice Cream.

The Westside Food Pantry is an outreach program of St. Andrew and St. John Episcopal Church and provides services to the community from November through April at Harbor House’s Old Yellow Schoolhouse. The Harbor House Children’s Center is the oldest licensed childcare facility on Mount Desert Island. Its well-trained and loving staff provides year-round affordable, quality childcare for toddlers to school age children.

Both organizations provide valuable services to Island families, and are committed to community service. “This Touch-a-Truck event is a special way for families to support both organizations and enjoy a memorable family-oriented day of fun,” said Diana Novella of Harbor House.
