Talk scheduled at SW Harbor Library

SOUTHWEST HARBOR — The Southwest Harbor Public Library will host a discussion about the perils of plastics in our ocean on Tuesday, Jan. 9, at 5:30 p.m.

Pollution from plastics affects our waters and marine life, but also the human food chain and our overall health. This summer, the Marine and Environmental Research Institute studied microplastic concentrations in Blue Hill Bay off Mount Desert Island.

Madelyn Woods, MERI’s marine research coordinator, will discuss the results and the sources, fate and impacts of microplastics in the environment.

For more information, call the library at 244-7065.
