Talk scheduled at Jesup Library

BAR HARBOR — The Jesup Memorial Library is hosting “Serving in the Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic,” a talk and slideshow with Joe Blotnik and Jill Higgins, on Friday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m.

Blotnik and Higgins spent two years as Peace Corps volunteers in a village in the Dominican Republic.

Higgins did environmental education and special education and Blotnik worked with a cooperative of cacao growers.

Their son Robin, who was studying film, made a short film about the cacao cooperative, called “Chocolate Country,” that won Best Short Documentary at the Seattle Film Festival.

Blotnik and Higgins will be showing the film as well as sharing more about their time living in the country.
