Talk Scheduled At Abbe Museum

BAR HARBOR — The Abbe Museum will be hosting a special program on Tuesday, Sept. 28, that aims to deconstruct stereotypes about American Indians.

The free event will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Abbe Museum Community Gallery. The program is titled “Indian or Native American? Deconstructing Stereotypes about American Indians.”

Abbe Museum Curator of Education Raney Bench and Tribal Historian for the Penobscot Nation James Eric Francis Sr. will present a skit and lead a discussion highlighting all those questions people are afraid to ask about Indians.

The program will also address some commonly held stereotypes about Native Americans, both positive and negative, that are present in both literature and media.
