Talk on “fake news” at Witherle Library

CASTINE — Former Maine newspaper editor and national news correspondent Chet Lunner will discuss the history, current status and suggested solutions to “fake news” at the Witherle Memorial Library on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 5 p.m.

Lunner will explore the history of misinformation and its impacts around the globe, examine the difference between traditional journalism and social media and suggest some solutions that concerned citizens may want to employ.

What do we mean by fake news? How do you spot It, reduce it, fix it? What role can classroom teachers play? What business models are likely to replace the traditional community newspaper?

This talk is presented in conjunction with the Camden Conference and a partnership between the Maine Humanities Council, Margaret Chase Smith Foundation and the library.
