SURRY — The Surry Historical Society will meet on Monday, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m. at the Old Town Hall in Surry, 1217 Surry Road. (Route 172).
The public is invited to hear the little-known story of one of Surry’s first settlers (1768), Captain Matthew Patten, a colonel in the Revolutionary War who ran British blockades in his coastal schooner.
The presentation will be by Ray McDonald, a descendant of Captain Patten. Admission is free admission and refreshments will be served.
