Substance Abuse Group Looks to Expand

SOUTHWEST HARBOR — At the same time the need for substance abuse counseling is increasing, funding to provide the services is decreasing, according to the executive director of the MDI Alcohol and Drug Abuse Group.

“With the economy being what it is, our annual appeal is falling short,” Ed Oechslie said.

All funding for the agency is either from fees for services or donations. It receives no state or federal funding.

Donations to the MDI Alcohol and Drug Abuse Group can be sent to P.O. Box 616, Southwest Harbor ME 04679 or can be made online at

People seeking treatment are asked to call the Acadia Family Center at 244-4012.
