STONINGTON — Stonington’s Sept. 6 First Friday event will once again feature food, music, gourmet lemonade, a book signing and a book giveaway and late hours for Main Street’s retail shops.
Take in the final views of summer at Inn on the Harbor, which will host Isle Jazz. Acadia House Provisions is offering a local pork taco bar with tons of garnishes and fixings. Customers can build their own and enjoy eating on the deck. The Stonington Lobster Company also will be open for al fresco-dining.
For dessert, stop by the Stonington Public Library, where Sam Robbins will sell sweets and gourmet lemonade. The library is giving away free books (though donations would be appreciated).
At Dry Dock, join author Charlotte Crowder and illustrator Jill Finsen as they celebrate “A Fine Orange Bucket,” their new children’s book about lobster fishing.
And for movie fans, the Stonington Opera House will offer free popcorn to anyone who mentions First Friday at the 7 p.m. showing of “Maiden,” the documentary about Tracy Edwards, who became the skipper of the first ever all-female crew to enter the 1989 Whitbread Round the World Race.
First Friday will take place from 4:30 to 7 p.m.
Among the shops and galleries that will be open until 7 p.m. are Art By Evelyn Kok, Dry Dock, Island Approaches and Unexpected Treasures.
The Deer Isle-Stonington Chamber of Commerce sponsors the event from June through September. For more info, contact Leslie Landrigan at 975-6824 or Leslie Miller at lesliemiller1848gmail.com.
