Stars Over Surry event Aug. 9

SURRY — The Stars Over Surry night sky event is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 9.

The Surry Conservation Commission, in collaboration with Blue Hill Heritage Trust, invites you to join them for a celebration of the night sky.

The evening will begin with an indoor planetarium presentation at the Surry Elementary School. The program will then head out to Surry Forest once the sun goes down, for a guided tour of the night sky. All are welcome and all events are free.

The timeline is as follows:

  • Sunset: 7:50 p.m.
  • 4 and 5:15 p.m.: planetarium show at Surry Elementary School.
  • 6 p.m.: picnic at Surry Forest. Bring your own picnic (we suggest you bring a lawn chair or blanket and a flashlight).
  • 7 p.m.: Lynn Havsall will lead a night sky chat by fire with marshmallows.
  • 8:15 p.m.: John Meader will lead a guided night sky tour with stories.

Surry Forest is located 3.5 miles down the Toddy Pond Road (from the village of Surry) on Chestnut Lane in Surry. The gate will be open for the event, so participants can drive in and park closer to the event.
