BAR HARBOR — The MDI High School Speech Team will host a Maine Forensics Association-sanctioned speech tournament this Saturday, Dec. 12. High school teams from Skowhegan, Lewiston, Bangor, Poland, Orono, and other locations will compete in oral interpretation categories such as prose, poetry, and humorous interpretation, as well as extemporaneous speaking.
Members of coach Marjory Russakoff’s team include: Maddy Johnson, Amberosity Davis, Matt Homer, Aidan Pasha, Tony Gott, Mae Krieg, Summer Keith, Parker Brown, Sam Jacobson and Audyn Curless. They will present works from diverse authors including former Sen. Margaret Chase Smith, Jean Kerr and Dave Eggers.
The awards that will be presented are unique ceramic medallions, designed and created with student input by Charlie Johnson and Liz Keenan in the MDIHS art department. Due to content, the audience will be limited to students in grade eight and older. There will be a silent auction of inexpensive new gifts held in the cafeteria during the competition. There will be a dinner provided by speech team families with community support. You can contact Coach Russakoff at 244-4313.
