SPCA Receives Surprise Grant

TRENTON — The SPCA of Hancock County was recently awarded a $2,000 grant from Maddie’s Fund and Petfinder.com Foundation.

The SPCA was the winner of the “Put Your Best Face Forward Live Visit” grant for excellent customer service.

Naomi Bowden and Chasity Cash were instrumental in securing the gift. Two women recently visited the shelter looking for potential animals to adopt.

Bowden remarked, “They arrived and said they wanted to look at everybody available for adoption. So I showed them around and they first visited with all of the cats in the community cat room.

“After viewing all of the animals, they said they were particularly interested in a cat named Tabitha, so we went back in to see her.”

Cash then reviewed the application for adoption so they could adopt Tabitha. A few minutes later, Naomi said, “So I see you are going to adopt Tabitha.”

The visitors replied, “Well, to be honest with you, instead of adopting a cat, we would like to give you a $2,000 grant for great customer service”.
