BLUE HILL — Selected as one of six Downeast communities to participate in the summer 2011 Schoodic International Sculpture Symposium, Blue Hill now must select a site for the sculpture it will receive through the program and raise private funds for its contribution to the program.
Those efforts will be led by a committee of residents, business owners and representatives from local organizations.
The committee is charged with raising up to $15,000 from private donations to cover the town’s contribution to the granite sculpture it will receive. The artwork would be valued at more than $80,000.
Two events scheduled in the coming weeks are intended to provide information about the program and to raise funds.
A wine and cheese gathering sponsored by Blue Hill Inn will be held at the Leighton Gallery Sculpture Garden from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 26, and on Sunday, Oct. 17, at the annual Foliage Food and Wine Festival.
Founded in 2007, the Schoodic International Sculpture Symposium has been recognized nationally for involving area communities in creating and supporting a unique collection of public art.
