BAR HARBOR — April is National Poetry Month, and Sherman’s Books and Stationary will be “well versed” for the literary celebration with a visit from local poet Bowen Swersey on Saturday, April 4 from 1 to 3 p.m.
Inaugurated by the Academy of American Poets in April 1996, National Poetry Month brings together publishers, booksellers, literary organizations, libraries, schools, and poets around the country to “celebrate poetry and its vital place in American culture.”
Mr. Swersey is a musician who, in the past year and half, has evolved a new body of work that is as much poetry as song. He is writing sonnets, and has put 42 of his poems into a hand-bound book called “Bread Crumbs.” He has sewn his printed pages into a leather cover and fastened it with a bead. He made 100 of them, and they are on sale at Sherman’s for $35 each.
