Search Suspended for Missing Fisherman

TREMONT — The United States Coast Guard in Massachusetts has suspended its search for a Bass Harbor man who apparently fell off a fishing boat more than 100 miles off the coast of Cape Cod on Friday afternoon.



According to reports, Chris Hopkins, 31, was reported missing from 63-foot stern trawler Bella Rose. It was believed he fell overboard sometime between noon and 12:30 p.m. Seas were running about six feet and winds were blowing around 15 mph at the time. The vessel was located approximately 125 miles east of Truro, Mass.

The crew of the Bella Rose, several other fishing boats in the area, as well as a Coast Guard helicopter, Falcon jet, and Coast Guard Cutters searched for Mr. Hopkins until Sunday when the search was called off.
