ELLSWORTH — Area small business people can pick up tips on tax preparation and record keeping at an Oct. 27 workshop.
The Downeast Chapter of SCORE and the Ellsworth Area Chamber of Commerce will host the workshop, which will be led by accountant and QuickBooks Pro Adviser Joy Peterson.
Peterson has been working in the accounting field for nearly 20 years. She has experience in Canadian and American taxes. Her focus has been small business tax preparation. She has taught payroll, business records and tax compliance workshops for SCORE in cooperation with the Internal Revenue Service and the state of Utah. She has been a certified QuickBooks Pro Adviser since 2003. Peterson moved to Maine from Utah in 2005. She works for the accounting firm J.T. Hicks & Co. in Brewer.
The business records and tax compliance workshop provides extensive training for the small business owner. Participants will learn how to maintain financial records, interpret financial reports and meet tax return requirements.
The workshop will be held at the SCORE offices behind the Mill Mall on Oct. 27. Doors open at 8 a.m. Coffee and doughnuts will be served. The workshop starts at 8:30 and runs until noon.
