SCIA Meeting Set For June 6

SURRY — The monthly meeting of the Surry Community Improvement Association (SCIA) will be held in the Surry School gymnasium on Monday, June 6, at 7 p.m. Lynn Bonsey, middle school language arts teacher, will discuss the grant she wrote that will allow the school to participate in the Maine Historical Society’s Community Heritage Project and create a website about Surry’s history on the Maine Memory Network.

Bonsey will be the team leader for the yearlong project, which partners the Surry School with the Surry Historical Society and the Blue Hill Library.

Among other things, Surry’s sixth- through eighth-graders will learn about and scan in pictures of Surry’s historical artifacts.

The information gained from the project will be integrated into the total social studies curriculum.

Also as part of the June meeting, SCIA officers for the coming year will be elected.
