At Carding Brook Farm in Brooklin, the sap is running and farmers Jennifer Schroth and Jonathan Ellsworth are busily making maple syrup — lots of it — in preparation for the annual Maple Syrup celebration Saturday, March 26, at Lily’s Café in Stonington.
Carding Brook Farm is also selling its fresh maple syrup for $10 per 12 ounces and $20 per quart by appointment (359-2326). Schroth says 2011 is shaping up to be a good syrup season. “The temperature has to fluctuate above and below freezing,” she explained. At Lily’s Café, owner Kyra Alix will have Carding Brook syrup for sale and will be serving it with scrambled eggs, raisin French toast, crepes with strawberries and other breakfast fare for $12 per person. Breakfast runs from 7 to 10 a.m. on March 26.
