BAR HARBOR — An official application for $3.6 million to rebuild a portion of Route 3 has been submitted to Maine’s congressional delegation by town officials.
The application was sent by town planner Anne Krieg to Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins and to Representative Mike Michaud on Feb. 12, the deadline for fiscal year 2011 requests.
Meanwhile, Maine Department of Transportation (MDOT) officials have indicated that they are ready to begin preliminary planning work for the project, said Route 3 task force chairman Matt Horton.
“We have received word that MDOT in Augusta would like to kickstart the context sensitive design solutions phase for Route 3,” Mr. Horton said. “In a nutshell, they want to design a roadway that fits with the community, fits with the surrounding properties, and is acceptable, as much as possible, to everybody involved.”
