ELLSWORTH — The Rotary Club of Ellsworth has kicked off its preparation for the 68th Annual Charity Auction, its largest annual fundraising event.
The event raises funds for the community. Each year the Rotary selects a nonprofit organization from the community, and shares half of the net proceeds with that partner.
The proceeds also benefit local scholarships and community needs. This year the Rotary Club has chosen Friends in Action as its community partner.
This year’s auction will be held Friday, May 3, at Big Cat’s Catering from 5-7:30 p.m.
The president of the Friends in Action Board of Directors, Charlotte Stetson, says, “Friends in Action raises all its money from the community and this will make a huge difference to us.”
A huge variety of items have already been donated, including gift baskets, travel packages and gift certificates from many local businesses.
Bar Harbor Bank & Trust has returned as a lead business sponsor for this year’s auction. BHBT has been a major sponsor for the event for several years, continuing its tradition of supporting local community charity efforts.
In addition to supporting Friends in Action, this year’s auction proceeds will also contribute to funding Rotary postsecondary academic and leadership scholarships and grants to other local nonprofit agencies.
Tickets to the auction are $10 each and are available at BHBT’s Ellsworth branch, the Down East Family Y, the Ellsworth Area Chamber of Commerce or Friends in Action. Tickets can also be purchased at the door.
