Rockland Shuts Out Ellsworth

AGES 11-12 — Rockland’s Isaiah Patterson pitched a two-hitter, striking out 12, to lead his team over Ellsworth Tuesday.

Mitch Domagala and Simon French each singled for Ellsworth’s only hits.

Righthander Conor Maguire pitched well for Ellsworth in the loss, allowing just three hits and striking out five in his complete game effort.

“There’s good playing at this level,” said Ellsworth manager Pat Maguire, “and we gave away the runs that were there.”

One Rockland run came when a runner reached on an error and scored on a fielder’s choice, the other on a walk and subsequent fielder’s choice.

Maguire narrowly missed a home run for Ellsworth on a ball that was caught at the fence.

In other state tournament baseball play this week, the Ellsworth team of 10- and 11-year-old boys was eliminated in back-to-back games, losing to other state district champions by scores of 16-3 and 14-1.

And in state Junior League softball tournament action, the Ellsworth girls’ team representing District 1 also fell in consecutive games at Saco.
